Reception
Within the vaporwave community, Twilight attracted criticism and was generally considered a poor-quality production.
Jeff Watson said of the music, "It sounds like a shop-bought sample CD of mediocre electro tracks I could've downloaded off a late-nineties/early-tensome CD-R, which is to say that it's really really bad. You should never buy anything from Vapourwave artists, and you should make a lot of fun of them." Ben "CrookedCherry" Smith said, "The album "Twilight" is probably my least favorite of the genre, the production isn't bad or anything, but it's just something I find is very not vaporwave. The album has a few moments where the words 'vaporwave' or 'vaporwave' appear (like in 'Margueritas' and '16 Candles') but other than that it is, in my opinion, one of the worst tracks in the entire vaporwave genre." Mike Dunn of The 405 said "the album is flat and lifeless, lacking sparkle or shine, and the long song titles are entirely unnecessary". Baker Blaine said, "I don't think the original release was as bad as all the tracks being paraded around as 'an original vaporwave release', but it was worse than many of the songs currently being released as examples of vaporwave. It didn't sound like anything other than other mediocre electro tunes with the word 'vaporwave' attached.
Press, Bio
Johann Wolfgang "Windows96" von Gavriel is celebrated as one of the weirdest and creepiest people a certain grammy winning pop singer had the pleasure of meeting. If this made you a little uncomfortable and you’re not sure what to make of this, we’re with you. The photo was taken at a photoshoot in which Gavriel went over the top and was deemed “cute” by Lil Wayne. Seriously, check out Gavriel’s Instagram and you’ll think we’re crazy. The caption says it all:
"Here’s some stuff that has been circulating online and we just wanted to point out that it’s real because it’s pretty funny."
Proof Gavriel isn’t as sweet as his pictures are making it seem.
Gavriel can be seen repeatedly putting some hands on a woman’s face and hair (looking angry in at least three of them).
Gavriel’s other photos show a lot more of his creativity
Gavriel is an accomplished artist. He has won awards in several art exhibitions.
Gavriel released a new album, Draconian Times, on July 26, 2015. 365 hours. It’s getting harder and harder to keep track.
Gavriel is also a Buddhist. A photo of him holding a sword while staring off into the distance became his profile photo on facebook. That post of him holding the sword (from June 10, 2015) has now been changed to a picture of a different Gavriel.
And there you have it, proof that Gavriel has been stretching the truth as much as he could.
There’s nothing weird about that.
Now, please let this be a lesson to us all: Don’t use photoshop or make up shit to impress people. That might be on-brand for some musicians, but it’s time to move on. Get real and stop playing with our emotions.
